A basic kit. Still not sure what to get for everyone on your Christmas holiday Winter Gaia list even after all of our suggestions earlier this week?

Well, how about taking a page from the US Department of Treasury, that bit of bureaucracy that last year filled their employees’ stockings with taxpayer-funded survival kits.

Yes, the $200,000+ gift of peace of mind in a crisis was given to those 3,800 some odd hard workers toiling away in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (yes, that’s actually a thing), where their mission statement is to ensure, “National banks and federal savings associations operate in a safe and sound manner, provide fair access to financial services, treat customers fairly, and comply with applicable laws and regulations.”Even the hat of government is stolen.

The 33 piece kits doled out came in both backpack or fashionable fanny-pack form and included solar blankets, water purification tablets, wet wipes, latex gloves, granola bars and face masks.

If you’re interested in going down this route, there’s good news, because just as a previous PDer said on Tuesday, there are a whole slew of sales going on right now for survival kits—- so chances are you’ll be able to cover everyone left on your gift list for under the $200,000 the government spent for theirs.
