Santa Marta, Colombia.

Julio Salas, the Health Secretary of Santa Marta, Colombia wants to make sure that his fellow citizens are beating the heat this summer.

Salas’ long list of recommendations for combating high August temperatures includes the usual favorites:

Cold showers.

Avoiding sun exposure.

Ditching black clothing.

Staying hydrated.

Have sex only at night.

Was that a record scratch you heard? Yes, Julio Salas is advising to keep your boot knocking to the evening hours, when it is not quite so hot.

“Avoid making love or having sex at times when the temperature is high, especially at noon, because this activity places physical demands on you and increases your heart rate.”

The only caveat? A/C.

It would probably be dangerous to have sex in your fridge, though…

It would probably be dangerous to have sex in your fridge, though…

According to an interview Salas conducted with Radio Galan, “If you have a good air conditioning, there is no problem.”

Taking exception to the Health Secretary’s suggestion is the American Heart Association.

The American Heart Association labels sex as moderate physical activity on par with going up two flights of stairs.

Naturally, while temperatures remain high, Colombians are instructed to follow the American way, and avoid stairs.
