Just in time for her pseudo (well, Hollywood) historical cinema release The Butler, Oprah the former Queen of Talk and current Queen of the Cupcake is all about manufactured controversy, and boy was she trying to cram as much as possible into
her little “Donna Karen skirt” one junket interview.
First, there’s the epic racist-purse-gate, which is the part the main stream media is all over like white on rice (Get it? We’re trying to be racist). Then her days in Reverend Wright’s flock came bubbling to the surface with her Trayvon Martin/Emmett Till parallel scribbles.
Let’s start with racist-purse-gate. In the interview, fresh back from attending Tina Turner’s wedding, Oprah was all about her traumatizing experience at a Zurich Trois Pommes. Here’s her side of the harrowing tale:
“I was in Zurich the other day, in a store whose name I will not mention. I didn’t have my eyelashes on, but I was in full Oprah Winfrey gear. I had my little Donna Karen skirt and my little sandals. But obviously, the Oprah Winfrey Show is not shown in Zurich. I go into a store and I say to the woman, ‘Excuse me, may I see the bag right above your head?’ and she says to me, ‘No. It’s too expensive.’”
Can you believe the awful injustice this woman faced?
Okay yeah, we’re not impressed either. Sorry, Oprah, but boo-de-fucking-hoo-hoo. You received poor costumer service in Europe? Welcome to the world outside of the United States, where the customer is rarely King and almost never right.
Of course, since the story broke the sales girl has come forth stating the issue certainly wasn’t racism, but a slight degree of laziness.
“I explained to her the bags came in different sizes and materials, like I always do. She looked at a frame behind me. Far above there was the 35,000 Swiss franc crocodile leather bag. I simply told her that it was like the one I held in my hand, only much more expensive, and that I could show her similar bags. It is absolutely not true that I declined to show her the bag on racist grounds. I even asked her if she wanted to look at the bag. She looked around the store again, but didn’t say anything else. Then she went with her companion to the lower floor. My colleague saw them to the door. They were not even in the store for five minutes.”
What a logical explanation? No way! Get out of town!
In any case, ignoring all of the she said-racism-not-racism, let’s all take a moment of silence for this everywoman Oprah Winfrey, after all the bag itself, a black croc number, was only $42,000…you know a lot of the 99%ers yearly salaries.
Is the moment of silence over yet?
Okay, the punch in the face part of the interview was where she said, “Trayvon Martin, parallel to Emmett Till. Let me just tell you, in my mind, same thing.”
Wow, really Oprah? Seventeen year old Trayvon Martin whom was killed in self-defense, because he was brutally pounding George Zimmerman’s head into the cement is exactly the same thing as the 1955 case of a fourteen year old who was kidnapped, tortured, had one of his eyes gouged out, was shot, and then chunked into the Tallahatchie River with a 72 pound cotton gin fan barbed wired around his neck to weigh him down? Those two things are exactly alike?
So what do these two cases from this one interview illuminate?
Well, let’s just say that all of the money in the world can’t remove a victim mentality and entitlement chip on the shoulder, shackled to a person through years of indoctrination. Indoctrination such that these so called “victims” themselves are all too happy to pay forward.
Oh yeah, and one more quick little note. Guess who
Dear Leader Barack Obama just gave the Medal of Freedom to? Yeah, exactly.
