When is the time for Council Officials to hike up penalties for not paying
snowplow fines? Well, in Pennsylvania it’s August.

This Christmas, down on the Jersey Shore (formerly known as Waynesburg), you
can look forward to paying even more for not plowing your sidewalk thanks
to yes votes from Janet Barnhart, Marguerite Dyroff, Matthew Haag,
Kenneth Scheesley, Barb Schmouder, and Michael Zellers.

Provided you do not remove snow or ice from your sidewalk within 24 hours
of it having fallen, you will be issued a standard $25 fine.

A Fine’s Fine

Your sidewalk must be plowed within 24 hours.

If you are like most people and decide to use the fine to line a birdcage
instead of paying it, a further fine of up to $1,000 will be sent to you.

Sure, rehypothecation is just around the corner (or even here now depending upon whom you ask), but an extra fine for not paying a fine that hits $1,000 seems pretty steep, even for Pennsylvania.

Have questions? The next borough meeting is September 10th.
