This back to school week, Alabama made news by banning the song Dixie, and making the case that Duck Duck Goose is too traumatic to count as Physical Education.
A Long List
In all fairness, it was actually Professor of Wasting Time, Neil F. Williams, whom first wrote the long list of inappropriate P.E. activities, back in 1996.
The reason why the list decrying childhood classics such as Tag and Red Rover, is a big deal now is at the start of the Semester, that list was shared by an employee via email to all P.E. teachers in the area. The list was also later found on the Alabama State Department of Education website.
Naturally, the ASDE claims that the ban list is not official policy, and that they are investigating why it was emailed to educators without proper permission.
