In his centuries in higher office, Senator Harry Reid has had a good amount of experience in spending campaign funds on those near and dear to him.
This time around, instead of spending $31,000 on trinkets made by his grandchild, Reid deemed it necessary to spend $7,000 on a portrait—of himself.
The artist, a former staffer of Reid’s, Gavin Glakas had also previously done a portrait of the Senator’s wife.
While campaign donors might not feel like that was money well-spent, when another Democrat Dinosaur Rep. Charlie Rangel paid $64,500 of PAC funds for a portrait back in 2007, the FEC ruled that legally there was nothing wrong with that.
Something to think about when you decide to add to a campaigner’s coffer.
