With swimsuit season knocking on the dressing room door of the Northern Hemisphere, looking at the mound of bikinis, tankinis, and burkinis you might be wondering whatever happened to just skinny-dipping?
Well, don’t worry, as always PD’s got you covered.
Going along with most past times, the kibosh on skinny-dipping was put on by Queen Victoria, when she outlawed nude swimming.
Up until then, swimming in the au naturel was a perfectly acceptable thing to do in the Western world.
Blame It On Victoria
It was Queen Victoria’s ban on nude swimming that eventually led to the Seaside walking dress, and contraptions like the bathing machine.
So, as you oil up and squeeze into that swimsuit, know that you have Queen Victoria to thank for that.
We are sure she would offer a curt, “You’re welcome.”
