In March of 2016, the FDA announced a proposal to ban powdered gloves from the market due to what they claim to be an, “Unreasonable and substantial risk of illness or injury to health care providers.”
Apparently, that doctor glove snap is deadly.
The Director of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health Jeffery Shuren explained in the ban proposal that, “This ban is about protecting patients and health care professionals from a danger they might not even be aware of. We take bans very seriously and only take this action when we feel it’s necessary to protect the public health.”
The worry is that the powders used could cause allergic reactions to those allergic to the powder.
Yes, we second that eye-roll.
Simply labeling the type of powders used on said gloves is apparently not enough to appease the FDA, as the risk of misreading outweighs any belief in the intelligence of citizenry.
Enjoy your weekend.
