Cuba’s Toaster Revolution

Now that's a painful convo.Senile? No, Santa.Calling it sweetening with senility, but Fidel Castro has just opened up the gift registries of Cuba’s couples, by green lighting the removal of a 2005 ban on electronic appliances.

The new statute premiered in May, allowing for citizens to import their choice of two (count’em two) appliances into the island country, for non-commercial purposes. Microwaves, toasters, irons, fryers, water heaters, air conditioners, and refrigerators are all on the approved list, making the push down the aisle all the easier.

There’s no word yet on how the State feels about pressure cookers, but after years of blackouts and forced energy rationing Cubans are happy about the rule upgrade.

“We’d like to own a toaster, but there are none to buy here,” explained one. “If people can bring them in, then it will be better for everyone. We can have a real chance.”Cuban luxury.

The eight year ban was a key tactic of Castro’s Energy Revolution, where he also tossed all incandescent light bulbs a ’la George W. Bush 2012.

Smell that liberty.
