Yosemite Has a Rough Season

Yosemite.Don’t get caught on those curvy roads at sunset.Even if you decided not to hit the beach this summer, there still are dangers that can creep up on you during vacation.

Home of El Capitán, California’s Yosemite National Park has had a tough season, and no, unlike Yellowstone, it’s not down to bear attacks.

Two campers were killed when a Black Oak tree branch fell on their tent as they slept in the Upper Pines Campground. The last time someone died in Yosemite as the result of a falling branch was back in 2012.

Then this season, Yosemite visitors have had to deal with a number of campsite closures due to plague outbreaks, the first in California since 2006.

So far there have been two cases of plague reported, one being a child staying at the Crane Flat Campground. The plague: A great to ruin a vacation.

Overall, even Tuolummne Meadows Campground was sprayed with insecticide to help stop the spread of the illness.

Director of the California State Health Department, Dr. Karen Smith assured summertime tourists that, "Although this is a rare disease, and the current risk to humans is low, eliminating the fleas is the best way to protect the public from the disease."

Hey, even vacations call for vigilance these days.
