India’s stylish Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma made waves last week when he ruled the miniskirt to be over, or at the very least overrated and potentially dangerous in parts of his native country.

Coming out with a special welcome kit for female tourists (yes---talk about intolerant since he has nothing for those out there that are non-binary) which highlights the joys of dressing modestly, Sharma said, “For their own safety, women foreign tourists should not wear short dresses and skirts.”

Exactly. Like the maxi skirt, but with more whimsy.

Everyone swears the 90’s are back, and while PD recommends sidestepping Clinton and chokers, we are firmly with Sharma when it comes to short skirts. Two words: Go broomstick.

Long and easy to cram into a bag, available in a range of colors and materials, a broomstick skirt is the perfect 90’s throwback to get you through your travels.

Getting a few unwanted propositions waiting for a bus in New Delhi? As fashion meets safety, just pull out your broomstick skirt (and hey, maybe knife) and you’re good to go.
