Memory Lane Monday: Mikhail Gorbachev

Another Man of the Year.An interesting touch is the headline printed on the newspaper in Gorbachev’s bag which translates to, “Murder of Litvinenko. Treason for $7000?” Litvinenko being the ex-Russian spy that died from radiation poisoning earlier that year. This week our PD staff wants to take a quick look at a man that doesn’t really get enough press.

Though he might be on your 10-4-10 list, Mikhail Gorbachev, the communist leader that ushered in the “end” of the Cold War, the man that modeled for Louis Vuitton in 2007 and cut an ad for Pizza Hut in the 90’s, is quite the odd historical figure.

Diagnosing the United States back in July of 2006, long before a Trump Presidency, with, “Americans have a severe disease; worse than AIDS. It's called the winner's complex,” Gorbachev appears to have enjoyed playing doctor in his retirement.Like we said before, the Russian love affair has been long.

A founding member of the Earth Charter, along with UN poster boy Maurice Strong, and his own Green Cross International, Gorbachev also has the prescription to saving the planet, “The ecological crisis in short is the population crisis. Cut the population by 90% and there aren't enough people left to do a great deal of ecological damage.”

Dah, komrade.
